The Panthers had to work hard to earn a draw against very good opposition. Egerton started brightly with Ed Franklin going close with a couple of long range efforts which just missed the target. Adam Lee looked sharp and worked tirelessly up front as the Pumas looked to open the scoring. Vale came in to the game and Mitchell Brown and Ben Haselden battled for every ball to keep their attackers at bay. Both teams had to make goal line clearances to keep the match evenly balanced at half time. A stirring team talk at the break earned instant dividends when a through ball from Archie Phillips pierced the Vale defence and Leo Buckley pounced to prod in a rebound off the post. Vale replied with an instant equaliser and minutes after taking the lead Egerton found themselves 2-1 down courtesy of an unfortunate own goal. The Panthers changed shape and went to all out attack. Luke Granger and Andy Price went close and on another day the prolific Archie Phillips would surely have added to his seasons tally but for some fine goalkeeping. At the other end man of the match Jasper Kearns had plenty to do and a number of very good saves and excellent handling kept his side in the game. The pressure finally told when Vale conceded a penalty and Leo Buckley made no mistake slamming the ball home to give the keeper no chance. The Panthers pushed and pushed for a winner but it wasn’t to be and had to settle for a well earned draw.
