Egerton Pumas U9’s 2 – 3 Weaverham

A Halloween horror show for the Pumas as they fell to their first defeat of the season.  From the off, it was clear Egerton were up against capable opponents when their first break up field forced Matt Willis into a smart save.  There was little the defence could do to keep out the ensuing corner which was nodded home to give Weaverham the lead.  Egerton responded and man of the match Jack Curbishley powered forward but his shot clipped the wrong side of the post.  Just before half time Weaverham extended their lead and the Pumas were in unknown territory being two goals behind for the first time this season.  A stern half time talk roused Egerton and early in the second half, Stan Smith waltzed through the Weaverham defence to pull one back.  Egerton had plenty of possession with Bradley Hargreaves and Liam Birnie creating chances.  Olivia French almost scored her first of the season as Egerton upped the pressure.  Chasing an equaliser, Egerton changed shape with Tom Quenby pushed forward leaving Freddie Sass to hold the rearguard as the team went all out attack only for Weaverham to pick them off on the break and restore the two goal advantage.  Stan Smith pulled another goal back but the team ran out of ideas and only heroics from Matt Willis kept the score respectable.
