Cuddington 1 – 2 Egerton Panthers U9’s

A solid team performance earned the Panthers a deserved victory. It took a while for Egerton to open their account but that wasn’t for lack of effort. Isaac Bennett went closest early on when he beat the keeper but somehow the ball didn’t cross the line. Leo Buckley was hungry for a goal and couple of decent long range efforts just missed the target. At the other end, Cuddington had chances too and it took a last ditch block by Andy Price to keep the scores level. The breakthrough came when Adam Lee’s hardwork won the ball back beat his man and fired in a low shot which looped up into the box and eventually fell to Ed Franklin who made no mistake crashing the ball in off the post. Cuddington came back and Archie Phillips made countless clearances and Mitchell Brown kept throwing his body in the way to block Cuddington’s path. Man of the Match Jasper Kearns’ handling was impeccable and a brilliant flying save preserved the Panthers’ lead. There was no let up in the second half with both sides creating chances with Paolo Tabone a willing runner up front and Ben Haselden making vital interceptions. When Archie Phillips was upended, Leo Buckley stepped up to make no mistake from the penalty spot. It looked like some fantastic defending was enough to earn a clean sheet but in the closing minutes Cuddington picked up a consolation but this didn’t take the gloss off a great team display.

Team: Adam Lee; Andy Price; Archie Phillips; Ben Haselden; Ed Franklin; Isaac Bennett; Jasper Kearns; Leo Buckley; Mitchell Brown; Paolo Tabone
