Egerton Panthers U9’s 2 – 1 Weaverham

The Panthers ran out winners in a closely fought contest. Egerton created a host of chances with Archie Phillips beating the keeper but not the far post after being set free by Ed Franklin. A fantastic cross from Luke Granger fell to Ed Franklin who couldn’t quite dig the ball out. At the other end Weaverham kept Mitchell Brown busy in defence and Jasper Kearns had to pull off a great full length save to turn the ball around the post. Debutant Isaac Bennett picked out Archie Phillips with a slide rule pass and he was unlucky to see his effort rebound off the bar to safety. A goal less first half was typical of the Panthers of late – creating but not converting a hatful of chances. The breakthrough came in the second half when Leo Buckley’s long range effort was parried only for Archie Phillips to pounce. A second goal came in similar fashion when Andy Price’s saved shot fell to man of the match Ben Haselden who gratefully tucked the ball home to open his account for the season. In the closing moments Weaverham scored a consolation but there wasn’t enough time to complete a comeback.
