Egerton v Congelton Rovers

Congleton Rovers Away 30/10/10

Egerton Pumas 2-0 Congleton Rovers

Pumas too strong for Rovers

The Pumas for the second week started off slowly which allowed a well balanced Congleton team to settle. The pumas then kicked into gear and good link up play between Bradley and Isaac almost created the first opportunity of the game. The same two players linked up once again, a strong run by Isaac, followed by a stinging shot produced a fine save from the goalkeeper. Cue a contender for the bizarre goal of the season, straight out of the Pepe Reina book of howlers. Following a corner from the right Ben managed to get his foot to the ball following a deflection, which the keeper comfortably collected, only to then drop the ball over his own goal line! 1-0 Egerton. This sparked Congleton into life and they came close to an equaliser following a quick break. Ben then hit one of his trademark long range efforts which was saved well by the keeper. The partnership of Freddie and Archie down the left was beginning to cause Congleton problems. Freddie was then saviour as Stan saved from Congleton strike, the ball rebounded back to the Congleton player who’s shot was destined for the net before Freddie stuck out a leg to deflect it over the bar. A “thank you” pat on the back was given by Stan. The first half finished with a flurry of shots, Bradley’s shot was firstly saved by the keeper with the resulting corner being headed wide by Isaac. HT 1-0

Bradley was determined to get his name on the score sheet and began the first half with a few driving runs down the right. Mitch had come on mid way through the first and quickly began to dominate midfield with strong tackles and great link up play with the forwards. Stan came out of net for the second half and it wasn’t long before he made a great run and narrowly shot over the bar. Mitch went close from close range but the keeper made up from his earlier error by pulling off another great save. It started to look like this was going to end 1-0 until another inspired substitution by the gaffer for the second week running, Freddie, who had earlier limped off pleaded to go back on, the gaffer took the risk to see Freddie with his first touch pick out Archie in the middle with a fine through ball for him to smash it past the keeper. 2-0. Freddie then signalled to the bench he needed to come off due to his injury having put the game to bed. Alex could have made it 3-0 just before the end but his shot was well saved. Final Score 2-0.

Egerton Panthers 3-0 Congleton Rovers

Quemby thunderbolt rocks Rovers

The second game started brightly for the Panthers with good early linkup between Luke and Ollie producing the first shot of the game. Leo had to leave the game early on with a wrist injury leaving the panthers with no subs, the pressure was on. Not that this seemed to affect the midfield duo of Luke and Ed, with the latter producing a perfect overlap move to then square for Luke to shoot just wide. The panthers kept up the pressure with Ollie hitting a couple of good shots that were well saved by the keeper. Congleton then almost scored against the run of play with an opportunist strike hitting the post. The panthers then forced a corner following a quick break, Luke swung in the corner for Ed to volley against the outside of the post. Luke then had a 1 on 1 chance which was once again well saved. Luke took the resulting corner only for it to be cleared, however the ball fell to Tom who’s neat control and powerful strike from 20 yards smashed in off the post. 1-0. Congleton almost equalised immediately with a volley that was just wide of the far post. Half time was rapidly approaching but Ed almost made it 2 from a pin point cross from Ollie. HT

The 2nd half started as the 1st half had finished, with a great effort by Ed just going wide, the pairing at the back of Andy and Tom seemed to have settled and Congleton were reduced to shooting from long range, one of which needed to be superbly saved by Matt, tipping it round the post . A rocket from his dad at half time sparked Oliver into life and he began to make telling runs and a few great through balls towards the striker. Ed’s hard work in midfield paid off when he was quickest to react, tapping in from a corner following the ball bouncing around in the box. 2-0. The panthers were now in full flow and a long range effort by Ollie narrowly missed the target. Another goal would finish the game and came courtesy of a great through ball from Ed to Luke, who composed himself in the area before firing into the bottom corner, his second goal in as many games. 3-0. A goal well deserved after a nonstop display. He could have made it 4-0 late on with a similar chance but his effort was well saved. A solid performance by the Panthers today. FT 3-0.
