Weaverham 2 – 1 Egerton Panthers U9’s

Another disappointing result for the Panthers as they sli pping another defeat. Egerton played well in patches but either luck was against them or they could not find the right final ball to take full advantage of some good attacking opportunities. Man of the match was stand in keeper Freddie Sass who made some outstanding saves. The first half saw both teams creating chances and Ben Hengthorn made a marvellous last ditch tackle to stop a certain goal. Bradley Hargreaves went closest for the Panthers when he attempted a cheeky lob only to see his effort clear both the keeper and the goal. Weaverham took full advantage of Egerton wasting chances and possession and took the lead just before half time. The second half carried on in the same way with Weaverham adding to their lead. Egerton always promised to score and when Liam Birney passed to Jack Curbishley who found Luke Granger it was typical of the team’s luck to see a good shot clip the post and go out to safety. Eventually Egerton did score what turned out to be a consolation when Stan Smith picked out Bradley Hargreaves who neatly flicked the ball on to release Luke Granger and the low cross was met by Stan Smith to turn the ball in.

Hargreaves ; in the last 3 to 4 games we were showing real character to grind out some good results everyone was working really hard helping each other and working together to try and get the results he told the pre match press conference at egerton "it was a suprise on saturday that all the hard work had disappeard as we struggled to get a hold of the game but hopefully it was just a blip and we will see the real egerton on saturday

Egerton Pumas U9's 1 - 4 Vale Juniors

The Pumas never really got going in a below par performance. Despite some good approach play, the team were never able to find the final pass or make the right decision at the right time. Vale Juniors took full advantage and raced to a three nil lead at half time capitalising on some well executed set piece moves. The second half was a little better for Egerton, with Jack Curbishley singled out as man of the match for a typical never say die attitude. A fourth goal was conceded before Stan Smith headed a late consolation.

Egerton Panthers U9's 4 - 0 Vale Juniors

Egerton opened the scoring when Archie Phillips drilled a low shot in at the near post after a driving run down the left. Jasper Kearns was called into action to make a brave save at the feet of an onrushing attacker. Adam Lee almost added a second when hitting a rebound first time and was unlucky to see his effort clip the wrong side of the post. The chances were coming in thick and fast for both teams as Vale responded and hit the frame of the Egerton goal too. The second goal came when Mitchell Brown linked up with Archie Phillips who picked out Ollie Oldbury to slide the ball in. In the second half, the Panthers showed flashes of brilliance. Luke Granger superbly lost his marker with a great turn and flashed his shot just wide. Leo Buckley controlled the ball and played a wonderful pass to create another chance of a shot on goal. In defence Ben Haselden was letting nothing past him while Isaac Bennett popped everywhere to snuff out danger. Man of the match Ollie Oldbury wrapped up a second consecutive hat trick with two well taken goals. At the death Ed Franklin was disappointed to not get his name on the scoresheet which would capped a fine midfield performance.

Egerton Pumas U9’s 6 – 1 Sandbach United

Having picked up a hat-trick last week, Bradley Hargreaves was greedy more and scored another three in double quick time. The first came when he converted a penalty he won after being up-ended and the second shortly after when a long range effort evaded the keeper. A quick throw by Paolo Tabone to Freddie Sass who found Bradley Hargreaves and a neat one two with Liam Birney opened the opposition defence, as he skipped through to complete his hat-trick. Egerton were dominating possession with man of the match Paolo Tabone winning everything in the air and Ben Henthorn impossible to get past. Substitutions mid way through the first half paid off for manager Lee Hargreaves, when Olivia French released Jack Curbishley who powered into the penalty area to slip the ball into the net. Matthew Willis had to be at his best first saving with his feet and then diving full length to preserve the clean sheet at half time but took a blow to the head for his troubles.

The Pumas picked up a couple more in the second half as Freddie Sass showed great strength and determination to win the ball before despatching the ball low into the bottom corner of the goal. Stan Smith also got reward for his efforts bundling the ball home at the second attempt after a good run and cross from the right by Jack Curbishley. Sandbach picked up a deserved consolation just before the death as the Pumas rolled on.

Egerton Panthers U9’s 4 – 2 Sandbach United

Egerton found themselves behind when the opposition took full advantage of a slow start to take a deserved lead. The Panthers got their game together as Ed Franklin imposed himself in midfield. A good passing interchange on the edge of the box between Leo Buckley and Isaac Bennett gave Archie Phillips time and space to hit the roof of the net with a great equaliser. With their tails up a second nearly came straightaway when a floated cornered sat up nicely for Leo Buckley to hit a sweet half volley that was somehow blocked on the line and from the rebound Luke Granger forced a good save from the keeper. The Panthers did take the lead just before the break when Oliver Oldbury scored the first and arguably the best of a fine hat-trick when he flicked the ball over his head with his right foot to turn into space and lash the ball into the far corner of the net.

Having got Egerton back into the game, man of the match Archie Phillips was now in goals but could do nothing to stop Sandbach levelling when they broke and scored with a very well taken effort. The game swung from end to end with Adam Lee breaking down the flanks as Andy Price cleared the Panthers back lines. Oliver Oldbury restored the lead, losing his man with a neat turn on the edge of the area and pushing the ball past the advancing keeper. The opposition never gave up and looked certain to score on the break again until Ben Haselden appeared from nowhere to make a brilliant last ditch tackle. Oliver Oldbury wrapped up the win latching on to a well timed clearance from Mitchell Brown to poke the ball home and clinch his hat-trick.

Hargreaves said; it was a brilliant performance by the players today. i thought we didnt start well i thought sandbach were the better team in the opening period, but i think we grew into the game as we started to get control of the midfield and started to pass it around better, i thought as the games progressed we created alot of chances which we took well which allowed us to grow in confidence and play more freeley in the end i thought it was a well deserved victory.

Winsford Diamonds 1 – 7 Egerton Pumas U9’s

The goals rained in as the Pumas cruised to victory. The Pumas wasted no time from the kick off and scored in the first minute when Ben Henthorn crashed a half volley in off the post. Jack Curbishley added a second, curling a fine effort into the top corner from the edge of the box. Ben Henthorn nearly added another when he thundered the ball against the bar and was desperately unlucky to see it bounce down the wrong side of the goal line. Winsford had their chances keeping Tom Quenby and Freddie Sass busy in defence and forcing Matt Willis into a smart save just before the break. The second half started with Winsford scoring. Egerton quickly responded with Stan Smith going close to scoring twice with Bradley Hargreaves in the right place on both occasions to bundle the ball home. In between the two goals Bradley hit the bar, but made sure of his hat trick and the man of the match award when burst through the middle and hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net for the Pumas fifth. Egerton continued to create chances with Paolo Tabone and Liam Birnie combining well down the left. Jack Curbishley and Ben Henthorn completed their braces both of them slotting home from close range to wrap up a comprehensive win.

Winsford Diamonds 0 – 2 Egerton Panthers U9’s

The Panthers came through only their second game of the year with a well earned victory.  A close fought match saw chances at both ends with midfield dynamo Ed Franklin in the middle of everything.  Stand in keeper Mitchell Brown had his work cut out and showed his defensive qualities with some good clearances.  Egerton’s best chance of the first half started when defending a corner.  Leo Buckley picked up the ball at the edge of the penalty area and ran the length of the pitch as the Diamonds backed off.  His low cross shot was saved and Luke Granger was unlucky to see his effort saved and the ball cleared.  After the break and with the advantage of the slope, Egerton opened the scoring after typical persistent play by Adam Lee closing down the Winsford defence.  The ball fell to Ollie Oldbury who finished clinically from a very tight angle to score on his debut.  The Panthers extended their lead, when a long ball from Archie Phillips found man of the match Isaac Bennett who made a strong run, exchanged passes with Adam Lee and was rewarded with a tap in.  To their credit, Winsford never gave up but could not break through the solid defending of Ben Haselden and Andy Price to pick up a consolation goal.

Hargreaves said : After a long break due to the great or not so great british weather we got our league campain back off running. we started the game a bit slow but soon settled into our stride and this allowed us to get the ball down a play at a quick tempo made easy by our excellent movement. we played very well on the counter attack today attacking with pace and good movement with good one touch passing overall a great team performance. finally well done to ben hen on scoring our 100th goal of the season so far.

TRAINING

After the mornings fixture being cancelled the players were called in for technical traning session. Hargreaves said; i was pleased with the players attiude towards the training we did. Everyone put the effort in to get the best out of the session. The things we worked on will build us up to the 11 aside game which we are all aiming towards over the next couple of seasons.

Tomorrow we welcome new signing ollie oldbury to the team Hargreaves said: Finally its over hes been a player we have been tracking for a couple of seasons and now we have finally signed him its great news for the team and the club.
