Sandbach United 3 – 2 Egerton Panthers U9’s

A strong Sandbach side nicked the victory in a close fought contest. Despite a bright start to the game, Egerton found themselves one down but persevered with a slick passing game. Luke Granger played a marvellous through ball the length of the pitch to release Andy Price but the keeper parried his goal bound effort. At the other end Mitchell Brown showed great commitment throwing himself full length to deny the opposition another opportunity and protect the overworked Jasper Kearns. Man of the match Ben Haselden repeated the trick with another block to stop a certain goal. Straight after the break, Egerton were on level terms when Adam Lee broke down the left and the clearance fell to Ed Franklin who made no mistake in putting the ball beyond the keeper into the corner of the net. Leo Buckley almost gave the Panthers the lead with a shot that was narrowly wide. Paolo Tabone and Archie Phillips were carving out chances at one end and working hard to stop them at the other. The Panthers took the lead when Adam Lee scored a fine individual goal chasing down a throw in to win possession before unleashing a screamer into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Sandbach responded well and worked a nice goal from a corner to equalise. As Egerton pressed for a winner, Sandbach broke to clinch a narrow victory with virtually the last kick of the game.

Sandbach United 2 – 11 Egerton Pumas U9’s

The Pumas ran riot in the last game before Christmas. Jack Curbishley scored a typical hat trick as did Bradley Hargreaves with a couple of stunning half volleys, Stan Smith picked up his usual brace while Isaac Bennett made it two in two. Along with an own goal, Ben Henthorn made up the Egerton scorers with a spectacular effort from the halfway line. Man of the match Tom Quenby did everything but score. Olivia French and Liam Birnie all played their part in a comprehensive win with assists and keeper Matt Willis got in on the act with a rare foray out of goals to turn in a useful midfield performance.

Egerton Panthers U9’s 3 – 0 Winsford Diamonds

The Panthers played well to pick up a well earned victory.  Man of the Match
Adam Lee opened the scoring to pounce on a loose ball when Leo Buckley was unceremoniously bundled off the ball.  Winsford had their moments and it took good work from Ben Haselden and Mitchell Brown to protect Egerton’s lead on a treacherous surface. A second goal came when Andy Price’s precision cross found Ed Franklin who made no mistake firing the ball just inside the post. Both teams found the conditions hard in the second half as the heavy pitch took its toll.  A frantic chase back and sliding tackle by Archie Phillips stopped another Winsford chance and shortly afterwards he cleared off the line following a smart save by Jasper Kearns with his feet.  Luke Granger was unlucky not to score with a couple of good efforts.  In the second half Isaac Bennett powered through to score his first goal for the Pumas.

Egerton Pumas U9’s– 0 Winsford Diamonds

Egerton made light of the heavy conditions playing some of their best football so far. From the off they pushed the opposition back and some took the lead when Liam Birney clipped the ball in from the left for Stan Smith to bundle the ball over the line. Minutes later the lead when was extended when Jack Curbishley was found with time and space to pick his spot and slip the ball past the Winsford keeper. Man of the match Stan Smith completed his brace curling a shot into the far corner of the net. Just before the break, Matt Willis had his first bit of action getting low to turn the ball round the post. Freddie Sass almost scored but couldn’t quite connect with a Bradley Hargreaves cross while Liam Birney went close with shots narrowly missing the target. The second half continued with Egerton creating chances as Ben Henthorn broke from defence to switch play while defensive partner Tom Quenby applied pressure with telling balls over the top of the Winsford defence. Olivia French worked hard and tackled back to give the opposition no respite in the middle. The shots rained in and the margin would have been greater but for an outstanding performance by the Winsford keeper.
