SANDBACH UTD AWAY

Hargreaves said ; "A great result against a well organised team".

Sandbach United 3 – 2 Egerton Panthers U9’s

A strong Sandbach side nicked the victory in a close fought contest. Despite a bright start to the game, Egerton found themselves one down but persevered with a slick passing game. Luke Granger played a marvellous through ball the length of the pitch to release Andy Price but the keeper parried his goal bound effort. At the other end Mitchell Brown showed great commitment throwing himself full length to deny the opposition another opportunity and protect the overworked Jasper Kearns. Man of the match Ben Haselden repeated the trick with another block to stop a certain goal. Straight after the break, Egerton were on level terms when Adam Lee broke down the left and the clearance fell to Ed Franklin who made no mistake in putting the ball beyond the keeper into the corner of the net. Leo Buckley almost gave the Panthers the lead with a shot that was narrowly wide. Paolo Tabone and Archie Phillips were carving out chances at one end and working hard to stop them at the other. The Panthers took the lead when Adam Lee scored a fine individual goal chasing down a throw in to win possession before unleashing a screamer into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Sandbach responded well and worked a nice goal from a corner to equalise. As Egerton pressed for a winner, Sandbach broke to clinch a narrow victory with virtually the last kick of the game.

Team: Adam Lee; Andy Price; Archie Phillips; Ben Haselden; Ed Franklin; Jasper Kearns; Leo Buckley; Luke Granger; Mitchell Brown; Paolo Tabone

Sandbach United 2 – 11 Egerton Pumas U9’s

The Pumas ran riot in the last game before Christmas. Jack Curbishley scored a typical hat trick as did Bradley Hargreaves with a couple of stunning half volleys, Stan Smith picked up his usual brace while Isaac Bennett made it two in two. Along with an own goal, Ben Henthorn made up the Egerton scorers with a spectacular effort from the halfway line. Man of the match Tom Quenby did everything but score. Olivia French and Liam Birnie all played their part in a comprehensive win with assists and keeper Matt Willis got in on the act with a rare foray out of goals to turn in a useful midfield performance.

Egerton Panthers U9’s 3 – 0 Winsford Diamonds

The Panthers played well to pick up a well earned victory.  Man of the Match
Adam Lee opened the scoring to pounce on a loose ball when Leo Buckley was unceremoniously bundled off the ball.  Winsford had their moments and it took good work from Ben Haselden and Mitchell Brown to protect Egerton’s lead on a treacherous surface. A second goal came when Andy Price’s precision cross found Ed Franklin who made no mistake firing the ball just inside the post. Both teams found the conditions hard in the second half as the heavy pitch took its toll.  A frantic chase back and sliding tackle by Archie Phillips stopped another Winsford chance and shortly afterwards he cleared off the line following a smart save by Jasper Kearns with his feet.  Luke Granger was unlucky not to score with a couple of good efforts.  In the second half Isaac Bennett powered through to score his first goal for the Pumas.

Egerton Pumas U9’s– 0 Winsford Diamonds

Egerton made light of the heavy conditions playing some of their best football so far. From the off they pushed the opposition back and some took the lead when Liam Birney clipped the ball in from the left for Stan Smith to bundle the ball over the line. Minutes later the lead when was extended when Jack Curbishley was found with time and space to pick his spot and slip the ball past the Winsford keeper. Man of the match Stan Smith completed his brace curling a shot into the far corner of the net. Just before the break, Matt Willis had his first bit of action getting low to turn the ball round the post. Freddie Sass almost scored but couldn’t quite connect with a Bradley Hargreaves cross while Liam Birney went close with shots narrowly missing the target. The second half continued with Egerton creating chances as Ben Henthorn broke from defence to switch play while defensive partner Tom Quenby applied pressure with telling balls over the top of the Winsford defence. Olivia French worked hard and tackled back to give the opposition no respite in the middle. The shots rained in and the margin would have been greater but for an outstanding performance by the Winsford keeper.

Moderator Returns with Breaking News

Apologies for the lack of up date on the blog.Especially Luke and Olivia after their star performances last week. Match reports are still pending me finding my notes from last week and what happens on Strictly, X-Factor, I'm a celebrity.

As promised breaking news:

Cuddington 1 – 2 Egerton Panthers U9’s

A solid team performance earned the Panthers a deserved victory. It took a while for Egerton to open their account but that wasn’t for lack of effort. Isaac Bennett went closest early on when he beat the keeper but somehow the ball didn’t cross the line. Leo Buckley was hungry for a goal and couple of decent long range efforts just missed the target. At the other end, Cuddington had chances too and it took a last ditch block by Andy Price to keep the scores level. The breakthrough came when Adam Lee’s hardwork won the ball back beat his man and fired in a low shot which looped up into the box and eventually fell to Ed Franklin who made no mistake crashing the ball in off the post. Cuddington came back and Archie Phillips made countless clearances and Mitchell Brown kept throwing his body in the way to block Cuddington’s path. Man of the Match Jasper Kearns’ handling was impeccable and a brilliant flying save preserved the Panthers’ lead. There was no let up in the second half with both sides creating chances with Paolo Tabone a willing runner up front and Ben Haselden making vital interceptions. When Archie Phillips was upended, Leo Buckley stepped up to make no mistake from the penalty spot. It looked like some fantastic defending was enough to earn a clean sheet but in the closing minutes Cuddington picked up a consolation but this didn’t take the gloss off a great team display.

Team: Adam Lee; Andy Price; Archie Phillips; Ben Haselden; Ed Franklin; Isaac Bennett; Jasper Kearns; Leo Buckley; Mitchell Brown; Paolo Tabone

Cuddington 0 – 3 Egerton Pumas U9’s

After suffering their first defeat of the season, Egerton were in mood to lose this game. The Pumas soon took the lead when Olivia French picked out Liam Birnie with a fine pass, who in turn neatly threaded the ball through to Jack Curbishley whose shot crept in at the near post. Egerton pressed for more with Man of the Match Freddie Sass making unbelievable runs to carry the ball from his own box to the opposition area while Tom Quenby’s dead ball delivery looked like another likely source of a goal. Although relatively quiet, Matt Willis’ handling and anticipation ensured that it was unlikely that they would concede. In the second half the Pumas doubled their tally when Ben Henthorn swept the ball out to wing wizard Bradley Hargreaves and Jack Curbishley arrived with perfect timing to sweep the ball home. More chances came and were spurned as Stan Smith went close and Jack Curbishely couldn’t complete his hat trick. Again Bradley Hargreaves turned provider when he slotted the ball through to Liam Birnie who coolly finished giving the keeper no chance and wrapping up victory. The Pumas clinched their clean sheet when Cuddington were unlucky to see a good effort come back off the post.

CUDDINGTON AWAY

Hargreaves said; I thought we showed great desire to want to play football we competed for every ball and showed good awareness in wanting to pass the ball.He said; We created a number of chances where on another day we would of scored ten but these missed chances left the games tight and with the threat of the opposition scoring we had to work hard enough of the ball to earn two good wins and get us back to winning ways.

TYTHERINGTON HOME

Hargreaves said ;After the game against weverham the team and management were abit deflated but a change in the coaching staff and a good rest brought the hunger back and the boys and girl were excellent. The determination was there from the first whistle as they battled for every ball and produced some excellent football the neat and crisp passing was made easier with the intelligent movement of the ball. He added; Now that the confidence is back within the team i hope we can push on and get back to winning ways.

Egerton Panthers U9’s 2 – 1 Weaverham

The Panthers ran out winners in a closely fought contest. Egerton created a host of chances with Archie Phillips beating the keeper but not the far post after being set free by Ed Franklin. A fantastic cross from Luke Granger fell to Ed Franklin who couldn’t quite dig the ball out. At the other end Weaverham kept Mitchell Brown busy in defence and Jasper Kearns had to pull off a great full length save to turn the ball around the post. Debutant Isaac Bennett picked out Archie Phillips with a slide rule pass and he was unlucky to see his effort rebound off the bar to safety. A goal less first half was typical of the Panthers of late – creating but not converting a hatful of chances. The breakthrough came in the second half when Leo Buckley’s long range effort was parried only for Archie Phillips to pounce. A second goal came in similar fashion when Andy Price’s saved shot fell to man of the match Ben Haselden who gratefully tucked the ball home to open his account for the season. In the closing moments Weaverham scored a consolation but there wasn’t enough time to complete a comeback.

Team: Andy Price; Archie Phillips; Ben Haselden; Ed Franklin; Isaac Bennett; Jasper Kearns; Leo Buckley; Luke Granger; Mitchell Brown

Egerton Pumas U9’s 2 – 3 Weaverham

A Halloween horror show for the Pumas as they fell to their first defeat of the season.  From the off, it was clear Egerton were up against capable opponents when their first break up field forced Matt Willis into a smart save.  There was little the defence could do to keep out the ensuing corner which was nodded home to give Weaverham the lead.  Egerton responded and man of the match Jack Curbishley powered forward but his shot clipped the wrong side of the post.  Just before half time Weaverham extended their lead and the Pumas were in unknown territory being two goals behind for the first time this season.  A stern half time talk roused Egerton and early in the second half, Stan Smith waltzed through the Weaverham defence to pull one back.  Egerton had plenty of possession with Bradley Hargreaves and Liam Birnie creating chances.  Olivia French almost scored her first of the season as Egerton upped the pressure.  Chasing an equaliser, Egerton changed shape with Tom Quenby pushed forward leaving Freddie Sass to hold the rearguard as the team went all out attack only for Weaverham to pick them off on the break and restore the two goal advantage.  Stan Smith pulled another goal back but the team ran out of ideas and only heroics from Matt Willis kept the score respectable.

At the Academy !

Today at citys academy was always going to be a challenge, as the boys who we were playing were either on the brink of the citys "elite squad" or fighting for a place in it.

The change of format to 6v6 and the small sided pitch didn`t help the egerton boys and it took a few games to adapt.
The city coach insisted he "warm up" our boys too, and put them through his pre match drills that they did with ease which was pleasing to see.

There is no need to write about the city goals tally on the day , but i feel we should take as many positives from todays game as we can ,3 great goals by Jack and a screamer from Ed left me and the boys happier overall ,
The keepers played their part too as you can imagin, they were peppered from all angels all morning, but all the boys i feel played their part against a more tallented and stronger opposition.
The final words from the city coach,
Well done today on being Polite, playing football the right way never giving up playing football with a smile on your face, you are a credit to your parents, manager, coach and your football club,
and you will be invited back soon !
The chat i had with him he said city benefitted from the day more than Egerton , in what way i dont know, i have asked Mark Burton to find out!

So well done to you all a big thankyou to all the parents for giving up your sunday mornings today.

Tell the boys , There was no result today , it was all about the performance.

Enjoy your week off and see you on saturday

Something for the coaches to work on in training?

Egerton Panthers U9’s 2 – 2 Vale Juniors

The Panthers had to work hard to earn a draw against very good opposition. Egerton started brightly with Ed Franklin going close with a couple of long range efforts which just missed the target. Adam Lee looked sharp and worked tirelessly up front as the Pumas looked to open the scoring. Vale came in to the game and Mitchell Brown and Ben Haselden battled for every ball to keep their attackers at bay. Both teams had to make goal line clearances to keep the match evenly balanced at half time. A stirring team talk at the break earned instant dividends when a through ball from Archie Phillips pierced the Vale defence and Leo Buckley pounced to prod in a rebound off the post. Vale replied with an instant equaliser and minutes after taking the lead Egerton found themselves 2-1 down courtesy of an unfortunate own goal. The Panthers changed shape and went to all out attack. Luke Granger and Andy Price went close and on another day the prolific Archie Phillips would surely have added to his seasons tally but for some fine goalkeeping. At the other end man of the match Jasper Kearns had plenty to do and a number of very good saves and excellent handling kept his side in the game. The pressure finally told when Vale conceded a penalty and Leo Buckley made no mistake slamming the ball home to give the keeper no chance. The Panthers pushed and pushed for a winner but it wasn’t to be and had to settle for a well earned draw.

Team: Adam Lee; Andy Price; Archie Phillips; Ben Haselden; Ed Franklin; Jasper Kearns; Leo Buckley; Luke Granger; Mitchell Brown

Egerton Pumas U9’s 4 – 1 Vale Juniors

Egerton signalled their intent straight from the kick off when a neat move down the left ended with Stan Smith cutting inside and clipping a shot against the foot of the post.  The Pumas were up against good opposition and had to work hard in all areas of the pitch to control the game.  A clever change in formation by the management midway through the first half created a chance for Jack Curbishley to race clear and open the scoring.  The Pumas were playing well with Tom Quenby snuffing out danger and Matt Willis handling everything Vale could throw at him with confidence.  Ben Henthorn was looking to celebrate his birthday in style bringing the ball out of defence and trying his luck from distance.  After the interval, a marvellous ball over the top by Bradley Hargreaves set Jack Curbishley racing clear of the Vale defence to who scored with a superb low drive.  At this point Egerton seemed to be cruising with Olivia French bossing the midfield and playing telling passes while Freddie Sass and Liam Birnie pushed on at every opportunity.  Vale pulled a goal back and suddenly Egerton seemed set for a nervy finish.  Instead of clinging on for a slender victory the Pumas were inspired.  Man of the match Stan Smith created space in the box before finishing emphatically and then shortly afterwards rolled the ball into Jack Curbishley who finished with aplomb to wrap up a another super hat-trick.

Davenham 3 – 2 Egerton Panthers U9’s

The Panthers suffered their first defeat of the season in a thrilling end to end match. Egerton almost scored first when Leo Buckley’s effort struck the post rolled across the line but somehow stayed out. Davenham came back strongly and hit the post themselves with Archie Phillips clearing off the line. Slowly, Egerton were taking control but were stunned by two Davenham goals scored in quick session. Credit it to the Panthers as they fought back with goals from Leo Buckley and Archie Phillips to level the score at half time. The second half was the same as the first with both teams fully committed to clinching victory. Chances were created at both ends and excellent defending by man of the match Andy Price kept the Panthers in the game. Mitchell Brown produced a brilliant flying save to keep out a goal bound effort only for the ball to be turned back in to give Davenham a narrow win.

Team: Adam Lee; Andy Price; Archie Phillips; Ben Haselden; Ed Franklin; Leo Buckley; Mitchell Brown

Davenham 1 – 3 Egerton Panthers U9’s

Bradley Hargreaves turned in a man of the match performance terrorising the Davenham defence with tricky runs and dangerous crosses.  The Pumas took the lead when in a goal mouth scramble; Freddie Sass created enough space to turn the ball in after a one-two with the post.  Davenham played their part in an entertaining game and Ben Henthorn and Tom Quenby had to be at their best to keep the opposition at bay.  Egerton almost extended their advantage when a ferocious Hargreaves free kick was parried by the keeper to Jack Curbishley whose shot clipped the bar and went to safety.  After the break, Egerton pushed on and when Bradley Hargreaves’ corner carried to the far post Stan Smith was there to crash a diving header in off the bar. Davenham responded and Matt Willis did well to turn a shot on to the post. Ben Henthorn broke from defence with a surging run and shot, Stan Smith kept the ball alive and Jack Curbishley gratefully accepted to slot the ball home.  The hosts continued to play their part and picked up a consolation just before the final whistle.

SEASON STASTICS 2009-10

Egerton Pumas U9’s 2 – 0 Sandbach United

The Pumas started brightly and star player of the week Olivia French almost opened her account for the season when her well placed shot came back off the post. Moments later Jack Curbishley’s through ball released Stan Smith who calmly beat the keeper but again the post intervened. Egerton kept pressing and finally took the lead when Freddie Sass picked out Bradley Hargreaves wide on the left who checked on to his right, before scoring from a tight angle with a fierce low drive. After the break, the Pumas continued to dominate with Ben Henthorn breaking forward, although Matt Willis had to react smartly as Sandbach threatened on the counter attack. Tom Quenby was desperately unlucky to not score when first a lovely team move ended with a great first time shot just wide, and then shortly after he got on the end of a cross only to see his effort cannon off the post to safety. The Pumas created a host of opportunities and just when it looked like they couldn’t buy a goal, Bradley Hargreaves’ corner was deflected in to wrap up the victory.

Team: Ben Henthorn; Bradley Hargreaves; Freddie Sass; Jack Curbishley; Matt Willis; Olivia French; Stan Smith; Tom Quenby

Egerton Panthers U9’s 2 – 1 Sandbach United

The Panthers dominated the early exchanges and took the lead early on when a Leo Buckley corner floated out to Ed Franklin who controlled neatly before firing home. Going behind spurred Sandbach as they came back strongly, Andy Price kept Egerton ahead with a desperate goal line clearance. At the other end Luke Granger showed great strength to win the ball and saw his low drive hit the post. As the game swept from end to end, Sandbach got back in the game when Jasper Kearns couldn’t quite keep out a spectacular long range effort. Sandbach tails were up and it took a wonderful last ditch tackle by man of the match Ben Haselden to keep the scores level. In the second half, Egerton took control once more and almost got back in front when Ed Franklin’s piledriver was defelected just over the bar. At the other end Liam Birnie had to be alert to snuff out the threat of counter attacks. Eventually, the winner came from a route one move when a Jasper Kearns clearance broke to Adam Lee who still had plenty to do but managed to clinch the victory with a powering run and unstoppable finish.

Winsford Diamonds 0 – 5 Egerton Panthers U9’s

Egerton coped with difficult conditions the better of the two teams with man of the match Ben Henthorn and Matthew Willis coping brilliantly with both gales and onrushing attackers. Playing into the wind Egerton, took the lead when Luke Granger slotted home coolly. Bradley Hargreaves was a constant threat down the right and Stan Smith nearly profited at the far post. A second was added before the break when a fantastic through ball by Ben Henthorn picked out Jack Curbishley who made no mistake from the edge of the area. The Panthers didn’t let up after half time and Freddie Sass soon threaded the ball to Jack Curbishley who picked up his second of the game and sixth of the season. A fourth came from route one tactics when a long clearance by Mitchell Brown fell to Bradley Hargreaves who pushed the ball wide before crashing the ball home from the edge of the area. There was just time for Stan Smith to chase a lost cause and win possession before calmly slipping the ball past the keeper.

Team: Ben Henthorn; Bradley Hargreaves; Freddie Sass; Jack Curbishley; Luke Granger; Matthew Willis; Mitchell Brown; Stan Smith;

Winsford Diamonds 4 – 4 Egerton Pumas U9’s

Not even the howling gale could separate the two sides in an exciting encounter. Winsford opened the scoring before Leo Buckley equalised with a thunderbolt from the left. The Diamonds again took the lead from a corner and again Buckley pegged the opposition back after Egerton pressured the defence. Winsford re-took the lead with a well worked goal and then extended it to a two goal margin to put the game seemingly beyond the Pumas. Egerton, however, had other ideas and were soon back in it when Liam Birnie latched on to a through ball from Adam Lee. Man of the match Leo Buckley capped a fine performance by completing his hat trick to make sure the spoils were shared.

MANAGERS INTERVIEW AFTER SANDBACH UTD GAME

Hargreaves said after todays game "It was our toughest test of the season so far and this showed early on as we struggled to get our passing game going putting ourselves under alot of pressure but coped well with it in defence we always looked in control of the game but a few mistakes allowed them a few chances. In the end we worked hard enough to get a vital win against strong opposition and carry our unbeaten run this season to five games".

Egerton Pumas U9’s 4 – 0 Cuddington U9’s

Egerton ran out comfortable winners in a game where they created countless chances. Although, after a goal less first half, which included Matthew Willis crashing the ball against the bar and a missed penalty, it looked like the Pumas hundred per cent record might come to an end. That was until stand-in keeper Jack Curbishley went up front for the second half and helped himself to four goals and the man of the match of the award.

Egerton Panthers U9’s 6 – 1 Cuddington U9’s

Cuddington took an early lead when a deflected shot looped over Mitchell Brown and into the net. A neat exchange of passes between Luke Granger and Andy Price created space for Leo Buckley to level the scores just before half time to leave the game evenly balanced game. The second half, however, was very different when a tactical reshuffle saw Egerton dominate. Olivia French threaded a fine ball through to Archie Phillips who mad no mistake in scoring the first of a rapid hat trick which ended the game as a contest. Andy Price weighed in with another goal, before Archie struck his fourth to cap a stunning man of the match performance.

Tytherington Whites U9’s 1 – 2 Egerton Pumas U9’s

The Pumas were made to work hard for their victory in an exciting game. Egerton were two up at half time courtesy of a neat Liam Birnie goal and a penalty converted by Tom Quenby. In the second half, as well as creating chances the Pumas had to defend resolutely as Ben Haselden turned in a man of the match performance. A spectacular flying save by Jasper Kearns proved crucial as shortly after Tytherington pulled one back to set up a nervous finish to the game. Egerton held on and were good value for their win.

Tytherington Blacks U9’s 1 – 2 Egerton Panthers U9’s

Egerton started brightly and were soon in front when a great cross from the right delivered by Adam Lee was superbly finished at the near post by Stan Smith. A second followed soon after when the ball was deflected in after persistent play by Freddie Sass. Egerton played with poise prompted by the tireless Man of the Match Luke Granger. The opposition pulled one back from a spot kick, but the Panthers cruised to victory with a classy team display.

Egerton Pumas U9’s 6 – 0 Frodsham JFC U9’s

The Pumas opened their season with a convincing victory. Frodsham were unable to deal with their strong and direct opponents. A Cruyff turn by man of match Freddie Sass created space for Andy Price to ram home the pick of five first half goals which included a farewell strike from George Taylor. In the second half manager Lee Hargreaves shuffled the team and sent Ben Henthorn up front. He almost broke the goalpost with a thunderous volley before adding the sixth late on.
